THE MAIN BRANCHES OF ECONOMY IN THE DISTRICT

Already in the 15th century was Trzebinia one of the largest economic centers of the region. Zinc, lead, and coal were mined here. The development of the city was accelerated by building  railway tracks and by locating several production factories there.

As a result of socio-economic changes of the last years of the 20th century, small and medium-sized companies developed in place of some of large enterprises. These companies represent wholesale and retail trade, construction industry, transportation, production, and services.

Presently, the first place of the economic map of Trzebinia has been taken by the oil refinery Rafineria “Trzebinia” S.A., founded in 1895. Itis one of the key companies of the ORLEN Group (Polish Oil Capital Group). For over 100 years it has been expanding and investing in modern technologies, strengthening its position of the largest and one of the most advanced enterprises in Małopolska.

The production plant of Górka Cement Sp. z o.o., opened in 1911, is a manufacturer of a wide range of fireproof products with various cement concentration. Since year 2000 it’s a part of italian concern MAPEI - world leader in the production of adhesives and chemical products for building. The MAPEI Group now counts 70 subsidiaries with 64 production facilities in operation over 31 countries and 5 continents.

Another important industrial facility in Trzebinia is the “Siersza” power plant (department of TAURON Wytwarzanie SA). It was founded in 1910 and following a thorough redevelopment and the introduction of environmental protection procedures it was the first power plant in Poland to obtain the prestigious ISO 14001 Certificate. The power plant generates electrical energy (110 and 220 kV) which is distributed to the national electricity network and thermal energy used for heating by the local residents.

ECONOMIC ACTIVITY ZONES IN TRZEBINIA

The local government of Trzebinia have decided on using a modern system that improves the developmental conditions of smaller enterprises and on sectioning off special economic activity zones for that purpose.

The first three zones in Trzebinia are created with the subsidy of the Małopolska Regional Operational Programme 2007-2013. The creation of these zones on post-industrial areas is a part of the programme of city revitalization and of the plans of tourism development.

1. Economic Activity Zone encompassing the areas of the former Metallurgical Plant, "Gumownia" plant, and Cooking Oil Factory is constituted of about 42.4 ha of post-industrial areas. As the part of this investment several tasks was performed: building and rebuilding road in the zone, building access roads to the zone, building road storm water drainage and road lighting.

2. Economic Activity Zone near the junction of A4 highway has been sectioned off from the most attractive investment area in the district of Chrzanów, within the so-called Miechów. The area has been included in the Kraków Special Economic Zone, thanks to which entrepreneurs investing there can be granted an attractive state aid package.

3. Economic Activity Zone "Górka” in Trzebinia is located within the area of the former Refractory Plant and is mostly developed with industrial objects. Its area amounts to about 26,6 ha. The works consisting in building a road stretching over this industrial complex and in developing the already existing technical infrastructure will be started.
